On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130. Imhotep was adviser to King Djoser in the third dynasty and he is credited with the design of the Step Pyramid in Saqqara, the earliest pyramid in Egypt.

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 134. This papyrus is inscribed for a priest of the god Horus named Imhotep. His coffin was found in 1913 at the cemetery of Meir, and this papyrus, along with a second (35.9.21a–o), most likely comes from his burial.

Mar 19, 2025 · Imhotep was the vizier to Djoser, the first king of the third dynasty. He was also a sage, astrologer, and architect. He is credited with designing Djoser’s step pyramid at Ṣaqqārah. He was worshipped as a god of medicine after his death.

Imhotep was the architect who designed the Stepped Pyramid of King Djoser (Dynasty 3, c.2687 BCE). Fifteen hundred years later, Imhotep was deified and revered as a god of healing and wisdom. As a sign of his learning, he holds an unrolled papyrus on his lap.

Imhotep (/ ɪmˈhoʊtɛp /; [1] Ancient Egyptian: ỉỉ-m-ḥtp " (the one who) comes in peace"; [2] fl. c. 2625 BC) was an Egyptian chancellor to the King Djoser, possible architect of Djoser's step pyramid, and high priest of the sun god Ra at Heliopolis.

Imhotep was the official who oversaw construction of Egypt's first monumental stone pyramid, at the beginning of the Third Dynasty (ca. 2650-2600 B.C.). The significance of this accomplishment made such an impression on the Egyptians that Imhotep was remembered and honored in later Egyptian history.
