What's New: See the Release Notes for what's new in each IGV release. All platforms# IGV requires Java 21 or greater as of IGV 2.19.1. If you download one of the IGV versions that does not include Java, make sure you have Java 21 installed and in your path. Mac users: As of IGV 2.19.1, the IGV Mac apps require MacOS 11 (Big Sur) or greater.
IGV-Web App
IGV-Web is implemented using igv.js, our JavaScript component that allows developers to embed an IGV viewer into web pages and apps. Note in the IGV window: there is no gene track, and no cytobandideogram in the genome ruler. IGV hosted genomes package everything together, but you loaded only the FASTA file with the sequence.

IGV-Web has a number of options for saving the state of your IGV session: you can save a file in IGV session format, bookmark the page in your browser, or create a web link URL that you can share with others.
Reference genome - IGV Desktop Application
IGV requires a reference genome. It serves as the "coordinate system" for displaying the tracks. When you first launch IGV, the human genome GRCh38/hg38 is loaded by default.

IGV 2.19.1 - December 2024# As of version 2.19.1, IGV requires Java 21 or greater . If you download one of the IGV versions that does not include Java, make sure you have Java 21 installed and in your path.
