
EMD SW7 - Wikipedia
The EMD SW7 was a diesel switcher locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between October 1949 and January 1951. [2] It was powered by a 1,200 horsepower (895 kW)12-567A engine. [1] The SW7 replaced the earlier 1,000 horsepower NW2 switcher in EMD's catalog. [3] A total of 489 SW7 locomotives were produced.

Illinois Central (IC) No. 1407 was built as an SW7 type diesel switcher locomotive in August of 1950 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors (EMD). Originally numbered 9411, the locomotive was used to switch cars in railyards all over the IC’s system spanning from Omaha, Nebraska to New Orleans, Louisiana.

The IC + GM&O merger saw several F3A / F7A locos conveyed to the new ICG and assigned a 1600 series number, but only 1610, 1615 and 1620 had them applied. They were also the only F-units to receive the full orange & white treatment.
