IC2 is a further development of IC3. It was designed for use on the private lines and on certain local lines, as suggested by the designation "RL2D" which is believed to mean "Regional Local 2 Diesel", with 2 being the number of carriages. The IC2 consists of 2 carriages, the MF and the FS.

Jun 23, 2017 · DANISH State Railways (DSB) announced on June 23 that it has reached an agreement with an unnamed foreign buyer for the sale of 15 of its 23 AnsaldoBreda IC2 DMUs.

On June 23rd, 2017, the Danish State Railways (DSB) announced the sale of up to 15x IC2 trains to an international buyer. Jürgen Müller, the Director for Strategy and Rolling Stock at DSB , clarified that the trains were sold as-is without any warranty to the buyer, Astra Trans Carpatic .

On 8 November 2018 Astra Trans Carpatic (ATC) introduced a new pair of trains running between Arad and Oradea (a distance of 121 km), and using two ex-DSB IC2 DMUs, now designated MP 5714 and 5718. The photos show the train at Arad.
