Hoover Tower is a 285-foot (87 m) structure on the campus of Stanford University in Stanford, California, United States. The tower houses the Hoover Institution Library and Archives, an archive collection founded by Herbert Hoover before he became president of the United States.

Built to house the 31st U.S. president’s formidable collection of works about war, its bells still ring “for peace alone.” T he 285-foot art deco edifice is arguably Stanford's most recognizable landmark—and certainly its most visible. From the ground, the tower serves as an orienting beacon for visitors to the sprawling campus.

Hoover Tower is a distinguished example of mid-20th century architecture in the United States and embodies the characteristics of depression era construction. It is considered to not only be an image of Stanford but also one of the West as a whole.

Hoover Tower is the historic home of the Library & Archives and the Lou Henry Hoover Observation Deck and Carillon. Visitors can view portions of the collection in the ground floor exhibition galleries and see the historic Belgian carillon on the 14th floor observation deck, which also offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Hoover Tower is actually a working library for the Hoover Institute on the Stanford campus. When you go up in the elevator, the "stacks" are only available to staff, so there are no stops on the way for visitors.

The well-known Hoover Tower was built to house the archives, then known as the Hoover War Collection (now the Hoover Institution Library and Archives), and contained material related to World War I, World War II, and other global events.

Enjoy the view from the 14th floor of the 285-foot-tall tower and see exhibits on the 31st president and first lady in the lobby. Employees and retirees with a current Stanford ID card and their one guest can visit the Hoover Tower for free.
