During his early days, Hua Cheng was nicknamed Hong Hong-er (little red) by his mother after the birth defect that caused his right eye to be red. He is always said to have worn dirty and messy bandages around his face covering everything except his mouth and left eye.

Hua Cheng (花城, Huā Chéng), also referred to as San Lang (三郎, Sān Láng), is the deuteragonist and main love interest in Heaven Official's Blessing. He is a ghost of Supreme rank and the most notorious of the Four Great Calamities, widely known as Crimson Rain Sought Flower (血雨探花, Xuè Yǔ Tàn Huā).

Sep 6, 2021 · Hua Cheng uses so many names throughout the novel and i love how much they connect to his identity. Like Hong-er being a reference to his red eye and the abuse he suffered because of it. The name Hong-er, and the color red, is a reminder of his past.

Jan 23, 2023 · It's very clear from the text that Hong Hong-er is Hua Cheng, given that he's a bullied little kid with a bandaged eye; the same one that Hua Cheng covers up. Plus, "Hong Hong-er" means basically "little red" and Hua Cheng is famous for his red clothing + red eye (in E'ming).

Jul 21, 2021 · Hong Hong-er runs away in the night, without anyone noticing to stop him. The following morning, Xie Lian descends the mountain to start his more "worldly" training, but defeats a ghost on Yi Nian Bridge. This is was his Heavenly Calamity, and he ascends as a god.

Feb 18, 2022 · Hong Hong-er looked no older than like 8 or such, because he was very small for his age (in part due to being neglected and under/mal-nourished). He does hit a growth spurt later, hence looks closer to his age.
