My husband and I are longtime Honda enthusiasts (I'm currently driving a 2004 Accord that I bought new). I know the Accord's a solid, dependable choice and the 2016 is fun to drive. We also really loved driving the Passat, and frankly the Passat dashboard layout is far more appealing, but I'm a little concerned about reliability.

Solid, exceptionally well built and very fun to drive. I test drove the 4 cyl. It performs well with a manual trans. but a little sluggish with an automatic. I traded in a 91' Honda which had to have the automatic transmission rebuilt at 80,000 miles ($1500!). The Passat (4 or 6 cyl) comes with a 10 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

I looked carefully at the Passat, Volvo S60, Honda Accord and 2007 Toyota Camry before choosing my TSX. The Passat has lots of questionable features which seem prone to VW-like failures, such as the electric activated parking brake and high-tech keyless-key. Also, the VW navigation system was much clusier to use the the Acura's.
