Mar 20, 2025 · Heisey’s mark is known as the “Diamond H,” which also is the company’s logo. George D. Heisey designed the mark, inspired by his college fraternity’s diamond symbol. The mark was registered in 1901. Older Heisey pieces (1896-1901) are not marked. The Diamond H was molded into the glass. It also appeared on paper labels after 1930.

This mark is found on the bottom of most large pieces and on the base or stem of drinking glasses and compotes. Heisey glass is highly collectible and widely available in antique stores across North America and online auctions such as eBay. It has what some people have mistaken to be the Heisey Diamond H on the bottom, but the mark can best be described as an H in a square turned on its corner. The Heisey trademark is approximately twice as tall as it is wide.

Dec 16, 2007 · The Heisey mark is really a capital H inside a diamond or Diamond H pattern similar to the image above from the National Heisey Glass Museum. Because of its collectibility, any companies want reproduce a Heisey mark on its counterfeit glassware, but fail to make it as clear as an original mark.

Oct 19, 2019 · The National Heisey Glass Museum website states that all pieces of Heisey were marked when they left the factory. Many had the famous capital H within a diamond mark in a raised molding directly in the glass while others simply had a paper label affixed for identification.

The Heisey Glass Company was founded by Major A.H. Heisey in 1895, in Newark, Ohio. The firm is best known for its perfectly pressed glassware, so precise it had the appearance of cut glass. [as are the items included in this lot, and in lots 292 and 293].

They made fine quality glass tableware and decorative glass figurines. In 1914, they started to make blown glassware which they called “Heisey’s American Crystal”, and was the first company to make fancy pressed stems.

Therefore any Heisey glass product produced between April 1896 and November 1900 was not marked. Starting in the twenties, many pieces were not signed. As well, it appears that some designers believed the mark detracted from the beauty of the design.

Many Heisey pieces are marked with an H in a vertical diamond molded into the glass, so many collectors prefer to collect this company because they don’t have to study shapes, sizes and colors—they just have to look for the mark.
