The crying emoji is a means to convey an exaggerated response, as it is a reasonable assumption that any emotion taken to a genuinely hyperbolic extreme would elicit tears. The use of that particular emoji is simply a semiotic standardization, as the other emojis that depict tears generally infer the nuances of different emotions or messages.

You can write up a proposal for to the Unicode committee on why you think an additional emoji should be implemented. I'm not being sarcastic either, this is a legit thing that has been done. Alex Schmidt (from Jeopardy winning fame and also a comedian and podcast host) has documented the process of getting the 🦬 (buffalo) emoji implemented.

Aug 3, 2022 · Turn off "Automatically convert emoticons in your messages to emoji" 🚨This can be done on both mobile and pc. Just put a >> \ << (backslash) in front of the smiley face. Works every time. Just make sure it's the backslash and not the forwardslash, it won't work.

Dec 25, 2020 · I stumbled upon an emoji sticker which is sad behind the mask. It takes off the mask, which has a happy face on it. How can I reproduce this? It doesn't seem to be obvious: doesn't simply work by combining a happy with a sad one
