Gränsfors Forest Axes are made to be used in the forest for everything from felling large trees to limbing small logs. The distinguishing feature of Forest Axes is a long, rounded edge, with a flat elongated axe head.

The Gränsfors Scandinavian Forest Axe is a more professional axe, ideal for felling larger trees and for limbing a felled tree. The long handle also gives more power to the cut. The axe is delivered with a sheath.

When, much later, the axe was given a wooden handle, several different types of axes were developed, which may be divided into two main groups: Non-shaft-hole axes and shaft-hole axes. Hand axes had no shaft and were used by Homo ergaster as far back as 1.6 million years ago.

The Large Carving Axe has a relatively long, curved cutting edge which is double-sided as standard. The axe is also available as a special order with the edge grinded specifically for right-handed or left-handed carving.

The sharpening of an axe is done in several steps, depending on how worn down the axe head is. Major nicks and damage can be filed down with an emery wheel, but do not overheat the steel or it will lose its temper.
