At no time will you be able to cause an increase in SWR even though you changed the rigs output impedance all the way from about 25 ohms to 100.

If it's lower at the bottom end of the band then it's too long. There are two (quick'n'dirty) ways of lowering SWR. One is by 'drooping' the legs a little bit, the other is by changing the length of the antenna.

I have an ameritron al-811 and the swr on the radio is 1.2 to 1 when talking on radio alone, when I switch on the amp and talk the swr swings up to 2.0-3.0 to 1. I dont know if the radio is just seeing this from the amp being turned on or what.

Assume a ham operator is on 10 meters using a solid state amplifier. With the radio only, the SWR is 1.1:1; when the amplifier is turned on, the SWR jumps to 2.0:1.

The SWR went thru the roof everytime I closed the trunk and my rx was affected but would go great as soon as I popped the remote trunk release even though the lid was not raised. Now THAT was a REAL head scratcher.

May 9, 2007 · The SWR meter does not react to the output impedance of the amplifier. The meter simply assumes you've connected it to a 50 ohm transmitter. Even if the output impedance of the amplifier is different, the 50 ohm line section in the SWR meter is still only looking at the load impedance it's connected to and not the output impedance of the amp.
