On May 29, 1453, the conquest of Istanbul was achieved by removing the Golden Horn chain. The Turkish navy successfully breached this barrier, allowing them to enter the city. This pivotal action marked the conquest of Constantinople as a historic victory, solidifying the power of the Ottoman Empire.

The real “Great Chain of the Golden Horn” was comprised of very large and heavy links and was a tremendous port, engineering and architectural work, while these minimal representations tacked on to the end of Uğur Genç’s dissertation are extremely disappointing.

Nov 23, 2023 · The Golden Horn Chain, or Boğaziçi Zinciri in Turkish, was a massive chain that was placed across the mouth of the Golden Horn during the Byzantine era to protect the city from naval attacks. One section of the chain is now displayed in the Istanbul Archeological Museum.
