As others noted, 9 has better photorealism/close up power while 8/8.1 have more content. If you start with 8/8.1 and realize you will use 9 more then switch to 9. you're going to end up buying things you don't use.

As far as the differences between G8 and G9 are concerned, they are mostly noticeable for facial expressions (the plasticity of the mesh in G9 is much better than in G8). Also, making an identical mesh for men and women is a great idea. Be patient, and you'll eventually recognize that G9 is a real breakthrough. I am User DAZ since more 10years....

Jun 23, 2023 · I use 8, 8.1, 9, and a few literal basic Genesis figures. I use mostly 8 because it's so saturated for options. When I get a new GPU, I'll likely do more 9 figures.

Apr 7, 2023 · G8 is around 17k polys base res. G9 is 30k polys base res. Remember every subd level quadruples the number of polys. Also, I think they use a base 8k texture resolution for g9. G8 is 4k. As to how they look together, I don't think the generation would effect it much. There are very HQ gen 8 figures, and LQ gen 9.

With the exception of the Daz3D store (which may be an internal policy for obvious reasons), the most of new characters are released to the previous generation (8/8.1).

Mar 31, 2023 · Genesis 9 isn't a failure nor is their a lack of enthusiasm. For better or worse, the majority of content coming out is coming out for Genesis 9 right now. Which honestly is a shame with how long it took some people to switch to Genesis 8.1.
