Jan 21, 2011 · These winches have a bad reputation. I don't think they are that bad but definatly not up to the standard of the Hyster / Lufkin stuff. The biggest issue I have seen with the gearmatic is that the pin which activates the main brake wears the ball and also the outside housing resulting in a sticking main brake. It is a simple fix to rectify this ...
Fitting a winch to rear of a dozer | Heavy Equipment Forums
Apr 11, 2016 · The winches tended to have a bit more snoose than a machine that size should have so yes, they could hurt themselves. Especially if the operator chained the blade to a large stump before engaging the drum, lol. The Gearmatic winches that were popular out this way took constant fiddling to keep them working well.

Dec 19, 2024 · Good evening everyone. Can somebody recommend a place to purchase a couple live swivels for my skidder. I need one for my Gearmatic 119 and a Can Car 20. Parts are interchangeable between winches, however I have been told the small OEM swivels are $560.00 Canadian plus taxes and shipping. Does...

Dec 24, 2007 · I recall that there was an early and later unit which had different drive shaft placements when compared against the winch to main frame mounting bolts. The Germatic winches had dry clutches and brakes and the plates in the clutch were prone to getting stuck together in climates with a lot of moisture.

Oct 28, 2018 · Still lots of them around in the Midwest. Most have 3-53 or 4-53 Detroit's in them with straight sticks. Many older machines have Gearmatic winches in them. All good, near bulletproof winches, but the most popular, the Model 19 will make a strong man out of you trying to pull the cable out the first few drags in the morning until it limbers up.

Jan 14, 2007 · I've long since loaned out my Tree Farmer service manuals, but my Timberjacks all use Gearmatic 19 winches. They are very close to, (who knows, may even be the same design) to the can car 20 winch. I'm in the process of scanning some of the literature, but also found a possible online manual for you.

Adapting Hydraulic winch to Dresser TD7G - Heavy Equipment …
Jan 11, 2016 · The original winch was a Gearmatic 19. It was pto driven not hydraulic. There is a Dresser/IH TD7G or 8E winch mounting adapter which bolts on the rear frame of the dozer. It has a bearing/shaft assembly that bolts on in place of the round access cover. The shaft couples into the transmission input shaft thru the back of the transmission.
Adding a hydraulic winch to case 450 | Heavy Equipment Forums
Feb 2, 2012 · I've got a Gearmatic hydraulic winch on the back of my 977. It's plumbed in upstream of the main hydraulic valve (which is inside the reservoir) with what Cat calls a 4th Valve. The nice thing about it is that it's mounted pretty high up with no PTO driveline to worry about. The biggest drawback of my particular winch is that it has no freespool.
