An EMD GP28 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between March 1964 and November 1965. Power was provided by an EMD 16-567D1 16- cylinder engine which generated 1,800 horsepower (1.34 MW). This locomotive was basically a naturally aspirated version of the EMD GP35. [1]

Mar 23, 2019 · The Morrison–Knudsen built for BN, GP28M has its beginnings in retired GP9 and GP18 models from EMD. I've been tossing around the idea of building one, because they looks like a cross between a GP35 frame, and GP38 hood.

Only those rebuilt to GP28M or GP28Ps survived into the BNSF era. Hey guys, Does anyone happen to know what was settled on for a frame length on these units when they were rebuilt? They were built from BN GP-5, GP-9, and GP-18's, with the GP-9 hulks making up the bulk of the rebuilds. Because of this I would assume that the other units were rebuilt

A excellent consist, BN OLS GP28M 1523, a BN GP15-1, and a bluebonnet B23-7 lead the local past the construction site in Joliet. BN GP28M 1528, patched for BNSF and with its BN marking s on the front, still wears special OLS lettering on the side as it leads the local through Channahon.
