Please note that the handbook / reference manual uses the graphical user interface (UI) gnunet-gtk to configure GNUnet. In this introduction, we use the command line interface (CLI).

What is GNUnet? GNUnet is an alternative network stack for building secure, decentralized and privacy-preserving distributed applications. Our goal is to replace the old insecure Internet protocol stack.

If you were using an Operating System with the APT package manager, GNUnet could be installed as simple as: $ apt-get install gnunet Please beware that some distributions may include outdated GNUnet packages! From source Please refer to the handbook.

GNUnet is not merely a technical project, but also a political mission: like the GNU project as a whole, we are writing software to achieve political goals with a focus on the human right of informational self-determination.
