The GF6C was an electric locomotive for freight duties built by General Motors Diesel in collaboration with ASEA of Sweden. Seven of these locomotives were built in 1983 and 1984, for use on the BC Rail's electrified Tumbler Ridge subdivision.

Feb 1, 2022 · The GF6C was an off-shoot of the General Motors / ASEA GM6C testing program (above). BC Rail, which purchased seven copies of the 195-ton locomotive, was the only buyer. Built in 1983, BCR 6001-6007 were used primarily as northern coal haulers.

May 31, 2022 · Nearly five decades have passed since General Motors debuted two new EMD electric freight locomotives. There were two models: the 6,000-hp GM6C, which operated on two six-wheel trucks, and the 10,000-horsepower GM10B, which operated on three four-wheel trucks.

The six-axle diesel freighters, along with the GM-built GF6C electrics of 1976, were the only BCOL locos to feature a cowl car-body. The #4619 leads a freight at Koster Siding, BC on 18 April 2005. (Doug Lawson)
