Vertical scanning only, sees 200 metres (600 ft) ahead of the boat. While I read all I could find about these two products, I am looking for feedback from people who actually use these units.

Garmin says right in the manual (but not in the ads) "The transducer has an effective forward range of between five and eight times the depth of the water.

Given that we are getting our first 10K NM in the Pacific Northwest , it was recommended twice by two different sales people, who also have spent years sailing in the PNW .
