Fog Cloud is less useful for hard CC, but it's still a great option. It pairs very well with difficult terrain surfaces, so ice surface, grease, Plant Growth, Spike Growth, etc. Smart enemies will usually jump to avoid these surfaces but Fog Cloud blinds them so they can't. Combining these two can waste enemy turns very well.

Apr 8, 2018 · Pop a Fog Cloud to cover your tracks, wait in the cloud, then hide somewhere else on your next turn. Trickery! Cast Fog Cloud into a room, then sprint out yelling "Fire!" Siege! Have a stealthy buddy creak open all the doors in a building. Then, cast Fog Cloud into it (at higher levels, the spell's radius is insane).

They might throw down a Fog Cloud and expect there to be defensive benefits, and then the Orcs just run into it and fight just as good as normal. Also, TIL Rangers have access to Blind Fighting. The fact that this is an optional feature seems to be downplayed, but obviously players that use it it have got the OK from their DM so it's all good.

May 21, 2021 · Giving the benefit to Fog Cloud's duration but ignoring that more than 1 minute is nearly worthless unless it can move to where the next combat that will occur. So Darkness's mobility is very important. 2nd and most important is Darkness is already plenty used, probably more than Fog Cloud because of its combo with Devil's Sight Warlock invocation.

Jun 25, 2023 · Without fog cloud one character actually fully died and the others were really low. With fog cloud i dont think i received any damage at all. Because of the blinded effect inside and being only obscured from the outside, it is a really powerful (imo in some situations almost broken) spell when placed on the midrange enemies.

Nov 23, 2020 · Its only useful in heavy obsurement or some other blinding condition. Darkness, Fog Cloud, Stinking Cloud, Pyrotechnics, Sleet storm... Most of the builds I come up with are a lot more functional with eldritch adept Devil Sight/ Darkness combo. The only thing I have come up with is a crit fishing build.

RAW Fog Cloud is a very frustrating spell and its uses become very niche once you realize THE MOST OBVIOUS THING ANYONE WOULD THINK TO DO WITH IT, doesn't do anything. You could cast it, and then have everyone hide in it, but then you're spending an entire turn for everyone to do that, and then you cant do anything or leave the fog cloud ...
