Reels: Left or right hand retrieve? - Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Jan 14, 2003 · I started fishing with an open face spinning reel. I cast with the right hand and reel with the left. This carries over to my fly fishing too. I have tried some of the bait casters using the left hand to cast and right hand to retreive and it is very uncomfortable. I think comfort is the the most important thing.
Reel Maintenance | Washington Fly Fishing Forum
May 1, 2015 · I give all my reels a good shot of reel lube before I use them. Once a year is enough. Some lube on the Spindle and the gears. And they are good to go. I had a reel that I fished on the Yakima one time in the middle of winter. It got dunked and it froze. It screwed up the drag to where it free wheeled so I sent it to the manufacture.
Shakespeare Model 1094 reel | Washington Fly Fishing Forum
May 14, 2009 · A Medalist is a good reel, but they're built a bit heavy for backpacking. A Berkley 554 or 556 is very light, and long out of production, but you might find one on Ebay for cheap. Or any cheap superlight reel from stamped aluminum should be good for backpacking. A backpacking reel for trout fishing doesn't need to be all that durable. Sg
Silent/quiet retrieve ESN reel? | Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Jun 5, 2024 · Thank you Tom! I looked at this one as well but the issue is the weight of the reel, coming in at around 4.5 oz it’s a little too light to balance my rod. I would need something in the 6-7.5oz range. Otherwise looks like a great reel, and as I …
Marryat Cmr 5/6 Limited Edition Reel, Swiss Made | Washington …
Mar 20, 2012 · The Reel You've Been Waiting For It could be the quality of the materials. Or the Swiss-precision manufacturing. It might be the world-famous Marryat engineering. Or perhaps it's the many years of fishing experience that went into it. Whatever the reason, when you pick up this reel, you know right away, it's something special. It's Built to Please.
Echo Ion Reel - Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Apr 3, 2012 · I would agree that this is a heavier reel on the spectrum, but with a two hander it seems to balance nicely. I've caught a number of large fish and like I said, I'm a gear abuser. I don't clean it, don't oil it, and generally use the hell out of it. This reel hasn't skipped a beat whereas other discount reels have blown up after a couple big fish.
Reel Advice - Sage 3200 | Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Jul 29, 2005 · I use a Ross Evolution 2 on my 5wt when fishing places where their is a chance to hook a hog. I have landed trout 20+ inches with the Sage 3200 on a 4wt rod without ever feeling that the rod or reel was overmatched by the fish. Cost wise, yea you can find a less expensive reel that will catch fish just as good but I dont regret buying my 3200 ...
Diamondback Ideal Nymph Reel opinions? VS the Sage ESN reel?
Jun 24, 2024 · Some honorable mentions are the Galvan GEN euro nymph reel as well as the Redington Tilt, but I really like how many customizable weight options the Sage and the DiamondBack reels come with. I will be using the reel on a 6wt as well as a 2wt rod, so having that large range of customizable weights is important to me.
NIB Lamson LP 1.5 Reel - Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Jan 11, 2020 · Pretty sure the Lamson LP 1 is 2 3/4 and the Lamson LP 1.5 is a 3 inch diameter reel and weighs 4.0oz empty. Not trying to be a know-it-all, but don't want you to miss out on a buyer because they think the reel is too small. I love my LP 1.5 for 3 and 4 wt rods. I could use it for a 5wt in a pinch if needed.
Albright Bugatti Reel | Washington Fly Fishing Forum
Dec 20, 2009 · Hmmm, a reel with an msrp of $250 is now on sale for $35? That tells me a lot about the market's cool response to a cheaply-made cast reel with an absurdly high price as well as the incredible markups behind all fly gear. Seems like …
