  1. Lesions of prefrontal cortex reduce attentional modulation of neuronal ...

Jun 15, 2014 · It is widely held that the frontal eye field (FEF) in prefrontal cortex (PFC) modulates processing in visual cortex with attention, although the evidence that it is necessary is equivocal.

  2. The role of PFC networks in cognitive control and executive function

Aug 18, 2021 · In this review, we describe six key PFC networks involved in cognitive control and elucidate key principles relevant for understanding how these networks implement cognitive control.

  3. Structure, function and connectivity fingerprints of the frontal eye ...

In particular, we will compare in detail two regions that are implicated in visual attention, working memory and cognitive control, namely, the frontal eye field (FEF) and the inferior frontal junction (IFJ).

  4. The prefrontal cortex and the executive control of attention

We review two studies aimed at understanding the role of prefrontal cortex (PFC) in the control of attention. The first study examined which attentional functions are critically dependent on PFC by removing PFC unilaterally and transecting the forebrain commissures in two macaques.

  5. Cortical information flow during flexible sensorimotor decisions

Jun 19, 2015 · We simultaneously recorded neuronal activity from six cortical regions [middle temporal area (MT), visual area four (V4), inferior temporal cortex (IT), lateral intraparietal area (LIP), prefrontal cortex (PFC), and frontal eye fields (FEF)] of monkeys reporting the color or motion of stimuli.

  6. Oscillations in the prefrontal cortex: a gateway to memory and ...

Jun 1, 2011 · We consider the potential role of oscillations in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in mediating attention, working memory and memory consolidation. Activity in the theta, beta, and gamma bands is related to communication between PFC and different brain areas.

  7. Prefrontal and parietal contributions to spatial working memory

Apr 28, 2006 · In this important study, PET images of memory-guided saccades were subtracted from visually-guided saccades identifying a widespread network of regions including dorsal prefrontal cortex (PFC), bilateral FEF, and the intraparietal sulcus (IPS).

  8. Working Memory Load Modulates Neuronal Coupling

Mar 28, 2018 · We asked whether the capacity limit might be explained by differences in neuronal coupling. We developed a theoretical model based on Predictive Coding and used it to analyze Cross Spectral Density data from the prefrontal cortex (PFC), frontal eye fields (FEF), and lateral intraparietal area (LIP). Monkeys performed a change detection task.

  9. Using paired recordings in the frontal eye field (FEF) and area V4, we found that attention to a stimulus in their joint receptive field leads to enhanced oscillatory coupling between the two areas, particularly at gamma frequencies.

  10. Lesions of prefrontal cortex reduce attentional modulation of …

For spatial attention, the frontal eye field (FEF) in PFC seems to play a central role in enhancing the responses of visual cells in areas such as V4 to behaviorally relevant stimuli. Electrical stimulation or pharmacological manipulation of a visual field location in FEF mimics the effects of attention on V4 neuronal responses 12 - 14 .
