Mar 26, 2007 · the FZ6 user manual I downloaded states "your yamaha engine has been designed to use regular unleaded gasoline with a pump octane of 86 or higher, or a research octane number of 91 or higher." this is on page 3-9 bottom center btw.

To put it short, higher octane fuel is for high compression ratio engines or forced induction engines (turbo or supercharger). Regular fuel will prematurely auto-ignite in those engines due to more heat from compression.

If you were to advance your timing and continue to run regular octane gas, you would get knocking/pinging and that is bad. Apr 27, 2011 · The past couple of tanks on my new FZ6 have been weird. Today I went through 3 bars of gas going about 70-80 miles. Is this normal? The last 2 tanks have been premium. Before that I was running regular and getting better mileage. Wanted to see if anyone else has this experience with higher octane vs. lower.

Apr 19, 2022 · It idles at 1250 to 1350 RPM on cold starts. Power delivery is great. However, the exhaust makes constant popping sound when revving down for anywhere above 5000-6000 RPM, which isn't bad per se, but I am not sure if it means the bike might be running rich.

Oct 1, 2007 · Hi there, I was wondering what octane fuel I should use in my 06 Yamaha FZ6. The owners manual says regular or 87 octane fuel. I was noticing that the compression ratio is 12:2:1 so would a higher octane fuel help the performance any?

Mar 30, 2016 · The great gas mileage while still riding hard was always what I loved about the fz6. I also use the cheapest gas I can, usually 87 super unleaded like 10% ethenol I think. Anyone else having similar results or am I just lucky?
