Summoned monsters (幻獣, Genjū?, lit. Phantom Beast) are magical creatures that can be summoned in battle. Known by many names, these creatures are powerful, and can have offensive, curative or supportive effects. Summons have been a Final Fantasy series staple since Final Fantasy III.

There the Faith will grant them the ability to summon their Aeon in battle. These Aeons with their devastating attacks and spells can turn the tide of any battle, and help the High Summoner reach her final destination in Zanrakand.

You will receive the Summon Master Achievement/Trophy after you have obtained all Aeons, including the optional Aeons, listed below. Dark Aeons: Have you returned to a previous area of the game only to be ambushed by an Aeon? You have encountered a Dark Aeon, a new addition to the remastered PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

There are three optional Aeons that you can obtain that are not required in order to complete the game. Yojimbo is located in the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth, Anima is located in Baaj Temple and the Magus Sisters can be found in Remiem Temple. Once you have received the item, "Summoner's Soul," you can use items to teach aeons new abilities such as stronger spells, white magic, black magic, and new abilities that the characters can also learn. You cannot teach abilities to Yojimbo, and The Magus Sisters. After Yuna defeats Belgemine, she will receive the item, "Aeon's Soul."
