CNW 8646 and 8701 were the last unpatched CNW locomotives on the UP roster which railfans referred to them as the "CNW twins". In 2017 after years of surviving untouched they were repainted and renumbered to 9750 (ex 8646) and 9805 (ex 8701) respectively. 9750 is in storage as of 2020 while 9805 is active and was rebuilt by GE/Wabtec into a C44ACM.

Nov 13, 2022 · Equipped with dynamic braking. C&NW 903 was built under EMD order number 7945; C&NW 950 and 954 were built under EMD order number 7148. Total of 91 C&NW units went to UP at merger. C&NW records show 4344 and 4457 as being unrebuilt GP7s; UP records show them as GP7R.

On Easter, I made it to the tracks just in time to catch a BNSF mixed freight train with a bit more color than usual. 1) The eastbound mixed freight, likely a Lincoln, Nebraska to Galesburg, Illinois train, tops the grade at Agency, Iowa on the BNSF Ottumwa Sub. 2) ET4

For anyone who keeps tabs on the modern day Union Pacific roster and also for any Chicago Northwestern fans, I am sad to report that the UP 6707, ex. CNW 8805 has been retired and scrapped at Hays, Kansas.

It was ex-CNW with the CNW numbers and ball and bar logo marked out and the new UP logos added. If that was not enough, it had a NS black cab sunshade, a primer air conditioner, and a UP colored access door.

Also known as the Elkhorn, the FE&MV (a fore-runner of the CNW) began it's life humbly enough, gaining prestige and years of growth under the control of the North Western. After consolidating into the C&NW, the former Elkhorn became known as the Nebraska-Wyoming District.
