Esdeath was a manipulative and barbarous sadist who lacked empathy for people whom she deemed weak since she lived by her father's philosophy ("The strong survive and the weak die"). She enjoyed putting her enemies through great pain, both physically and emotionally.

Tatsumi finally belongs to Esdeath, Night Raid and the Revolutionary Army are defeated and scattered. All is supposedly well for the Empire until Tatsumi is greeted by a mysterious boy from the distant dark future claiming to be his own son, with the means to avert the oncoming crisis.

Father: Esdeath was shown to be close to her father, as she spent her early life under his wing due to the death of her mother. It was he who she learned the philosophy of the strong survive and the weak die which moulded her mind to strongly embrace the concept.
