Oct 3, 2017 · Oryx over elk. Oryx is nothing like pork and elk isn’t really like beef at all. Big differences. The only similarities oryx and pork might have is the tendency to be over cooked. Elk and beef might have the same texture but the flavor is way different.

Jun 23, 2021 · Norma’s Oryx has emerged as one of the premier big game bullets. Like other hunters, I’ve found it reliably lethal on tough game. But many designs have preceded Oryx, their performance nudging bullet-makers to tweak materials, profiles and dimensions, and ways to secure lead cores to copper jackets.

The Norma Oryx, in my humble opinion, is perhaps one of the most overlooked bonded bullets out there. The 165 grain in 30 caliber is a hammer on deer and antelope..... it mushrooms well and holds together at 30-06 velocities. The 180 grain in 30 caliber is one that works well on elk sized stuff AND African plains game in 30-06 too.

When picking ammo for elk hunting, factory loaded rounds make the top of my list. I don’t reload, so factory big game ammo is my only choice. With Norma ammo already on our radar and agreeable to a test, we moved forward.

Nov 3, 2009 · I have used them for shooting small deer, a couple bears, up to quite large elk, with perfectly repeatable, satisfactory, and effective results. Wide expansion and shock effect, good bullet integrity, and adequate penetration.

Jul 20, 2020 · Any opinions on Norma Oryx bullets from a 308 Win, or 30-06 on elk or moose? I bought a bunch on a close out sale in 308 Winchester 165 grain, and 30-06 180 grain Oryx in Norma factory loaded ammo.

Feb 5, 2011 · If you have harvested an Oryx, please give me an idea of what the meat tastes like compared to elk, antelope, deer, rabbit, quail, pork, chukar, cat, rattlesnake. With this information I will know how to prepare mine for the freezer.

Apr 15, 2017 · My 7mm RM Tikka is going on an elk and oryx hunt this fall. I plan on switching bullets to a premium bullet for the oryx, which I have heard is notoriously hardy. I'm thinking Nosler Partitions, Accubonds, or Barnes TSX.

Nov 4, 2015 · Oryx bullets are bonded bullets with a gilding metal jacket and lead core. Like most bonded bullets they reach their terminal shape very soon after impact. Oryx bullets also open very wide — on average they deform to about twice their original diameter.

Scimitar oryx and gemsbok are good sized animals. They are similar to exotic European red stag and not far from Rocky Mountain elk in size, so the calibers that are recommended for those animals should also be a reasonable choice for hunting oryx and gemsbok.
