Aria Lova Eliav - Bruno Kreisky
Arie Lova Eliav was born in 1921 in Moscow, and moved to Palestine with his family in 1924. He studied history and sociology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. In 1936 he joined the Hagana, and in 1949 became Levi Eshkol s assistant. He was also in charge of the rescue mission for Jewish people in Port Said in 1956.
At this juncture, Lova Eliav, code name Arthur, who was an activist of Ha’Mossad Le’Aliya Bet came aboard to take command of the vessel. Accompanying him were the Palyamnikim Nissan Levitan, Israel Auerbach and Tzvi (Miri) Katzenelson. The Gideoni was Moshe Gidron.
