1970's - ELDORA 1 MILE CIRCUIT. With the success of the half mile track at Eldora, Bates decided to undertake an additional project at the venue in the early 1970's.

Eldora Speedway (nicknamed "the Big E", "Auto Racing's Showcase Since 1954," and "the World's Greatest Dirt Track") is a 0.500 mi (0.805 km) high-banked clay dirt oval.

Sep 4, 2012 · Eldora Speedway is a half-mile dirt racing facility located in western Ohio. The ‘Big E’ is owned by three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion, Tony Stewart. The Indiana native purchased Eldora from legendary promotor Earl Baltes in 2004. Baltes built Eldora in 1954 and had been the sole owner of the facility from day number one.

Since carved from a cornfield in the natural amphitheater that existed between the Eldora Ballroom and the Wabash River by bandleader Earl Baltes in 1954, Eldora Speedway has grown to be a frontrunner in motorsports growth and stability.

The current all-time track record at Eldora stands at 12.599 seconds. David Gravel set the mark in September of 2020 after breaking an 18-year-old record previously held by Craig Dollansky. In all, the one-lap qualifying record has been set no less than 64 times throughout Eldora’s history.

Nov 10, 2024 · The Eldora Million. In 2001, Earl Baltes raised the stakes to an unimaginable level with the Eldora Million, offering a $1 million prize—the largest purse in dirt track history. This historic race saw Donnie Moran claim victory and solidify his name in racing lore.

The site of one of America's most famous raceways, legendary Eldora Speedway, Rossburg, Ohio, displays the footprint of a one-mile, high-banked dirt oval. It was to be an addition to the historic complex, but owner, Earl Baltes had second thoughts and the project was never finished.
