As you leave Elbow Lake behind, you’ll follow the arrow-straight trail that tracks the Elbow River in and out of coniferous forests. At Elbow Pass the scenery opens up once more as lush, rolling hills and Tombstone Mountain come into view.

The hike to Elbow Lake is a wonderful, family-friendly hike in the Highwood Area. It’s also the perfect first backpack trip, as Elbow Lake is so close to the trailhead. We do this hike every year with our family.

The scenery at the lake is phenomenal --- blue/green water with panoramic mountain scenery. You are left in awe at the spectacular views. An back country camping area (Over camping permit/registration is required) is located at the trail approach to the lake. A bear proof food storage is provided. I can begin to describe this beautiful lake.
