East Marden is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Marden, in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. It is on the spur of the South Downs It is first mentioned in the Domesday Book as Meredone and was given in 1086 to Roger, Earl of Montgomery. [1]

May 13, 2021 · Tucked away in a rural part of the South Downs near Chichester is the village of East Marden. Although pretty much every quaint Sussex village can boast a certain element of unique charm, East Marden takes it that one step further.

East Marden is a very small parish on the Downs. It contains 938 acres and measures about 1½ miles from east to west and about ¾ mile from north to south. In the south-west and as far as where East Marden village itself lies, the parish is between 250 and 300 ft. in height.

Experience this 9.7-km circular trail near Stoughton, West Sussex. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 6 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

East Marden contains some thirty-two dwellings at the north-eastern end of the Octagon. Most people work locally or are retired. There are a few weekenders. The majority of houses are privately owned, although some belong to the farm and are rented.

Both North Marden and Up Marden have isolated churches standing in farmyards just waiting to be explored.
