Jan 30, 2011 · Just noticed this yesterday, upon startup there is this brief knocking/rattling noise that seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine. The noise becomes most pronounced two, sometimes three times right after startup, each time lasting for about 3 seconds.

I get a big puff of blue smoke upon startup of my 98 E39 M62 when she's cold and rough idle until she warms up. What is the most common thing/things this could be? Replaced MAF about 6 months ago but that only solved the rough idle for a while.

Sep 13, 2018 · I own a 2002 E39 (530i) and it runs nicely and has been serving me well for over 10 years. Very recently, it has had a hard time cold starting below 60 degrees outside. I use starter spray and that helps a bit.

Low idle at startup? My e39 starts at 6-700 rpm, but shouldn’t it be starting at closer to 1k then dropping down when cold starting? Not a problem in the summer but I have to rev it to (to ~1k) keep it on for winter start ups.
