PEC subunits p62/ DCTN4 and Arp11/ Actr10 are essential for dynactin complex integrity and dynactin/dynein targeting to the nuclear envelope before mitosis. [14][15][16] Actr10 along with Drp1 (Dynamin related protein 1) have been documented as vital to the attachment of mitochondria to the dynactin complex. [17] .

Dynactin is a multi-subunit complex and a required cofactor for most, or all, of the cellular processes powered by the microtubule-based motor cytoplasmic dynein. p62 binds directly to the Arp1 subunit of dynactin.

Our results suggest a potential role for p62 in targeting dynactin and dynein to focal-adhesion sites. This possibility is intriguing in view of recent evidence for crosstalk between microtubule plus ends and these cortical structures .
