Nov 23, 2022 · DRO stands for “dynamic range optimizer”. The camera does some sort of magical computer algorithm to essentially “boost” the shadows and “even out” exposures. This is, functionally, identical to raising the shadows/blacks in post-processing software.

Mar 21, 2017 · Ideally, you'd want to shoot bracketed exposure photos, in RAW, then combine them all in post. - but doing it in-camera is a quick and easy shortcut if you're not a fan of post-processesing. (I believe there's additional controls you can use to control the amount DRO does), but I leave it on as well.

Jan 24, 2011 · Someone on this forum suggested I try DRO. I have been experimenting with it and it seems as all it does is increase exposure even more - something like using the EC button to make the whole photo brighter. Is DRo actually supposed to change certain parts of the photo and not others, or is it an across the board boost in exposure.

DRO (Dynamic Range Optimization) increases the ISO setting for darker portions of an image, which lightens them slightly, while it lowers the ISO setting for brighter portions. The result is that a broader range of light to dark is captured within the same dynamic range of the camera.
