This library is a beautiful historical treasure for Saginaw. Built in the Romansque (sp?) style, it opened in 1890 to the public. Outside is built of local limestone from the Thumb, and red sandstone from Lake Superior. Inside is beautiful oak through out, including the staircase, shelving and window trim. Brass hardware completes the decor.

The library was a gift to the people of Saginaw from New York businessman Jesse Hoyt (1815-1882), who had real estate and lumber interests in the Saginaw Valley.
