His Block and Dash are purely there for animation. He does not avoid damage during these animations. Most of the time you don't benefit from parrying his attacks.

Nero's a legitimately great time once you learn how he actually works, though he's a different beast than Dante. I can fully understand not liking V, he's pretty unique and not for everyone, but if you like Dante, you'd probably also like Nero once you understand his inner workings.
