The new DIAD V performs all the functions of the existing model, but adds additional functionality, better hardware and software, resulting in an ergonomically superior fit for drivers, as well as advances in productivity. The DIAD IV was deployed in 2005 and included multiple wireless connectivity options.

Jan 14, 2010 · Known internally at UPS as the DIAD V (Delivery Information Acquisition Device V), the Honeywell mobile computer features innovative cellular technology that provides on-the-fly switching between cellular carriers, meaning the computer can automatically jump to another cellular carrier if the preferred carrier’s signal is lost.

UPS revolutionized the package delivery business in 1991 when it developed and deployed the first Delivery Information Acquisition Device, known as the DIAD. More than a decade later, UPS continues its pioneering development efforts with the fourth generation of the DIAD - the DIAD IV.

Packages sent through UPS are processed via a UPS Package Center. The UPS driver then picks up the package by using the DIAD IV which gives the driver information such as where to pick up the package and where to deliver it to, once he/she logs into the system.

DIAD IV introduces a revolutionary new feature - Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) - to the handheld terminal market. UPS plans to use this technology to provide drivers with more detailed directions to pick-up and delivery points in order to improve customer service.
