Dhananjay Bhanja was the last king of Ghumsur whose rebellion shook the British administration in Ganjam. Ghumsur was an important tract of Northern Circar which came under French control when the Nizam Salabat Jung of Hyderabad ceded Northern Circar to the French East India Company in 1753.
