The players are (typically) cast as field agents of Delta Green, a clandestine agency tasked with keeping a lid on the occult and paranormal (Think the SCP Foundation as staffed by real, incompetent government employees, and you’re pretty close). Jul 15, 2023 · Delta Green was conceived of as a way to (in concept) narratively answer why so many people ended up searching for the NPC Jackson Elias in Masks of Nyarlthotep. It's basically a cental conceit of Delta Green that a player is (as u/dhosterman puts it) a governmental goon. So yeah, it's basically the FBI takes on the Lovecraftian worldview.

Those books are being re-done for the standalone game, so far, we've only seen "The Conspiracy", which is the OG Delta Green book brought to the standalone version.
