‘Monge’ is a Lemoine lilac first introduced in 1913. It typically matures over time to 8-12’ tall and as wide. It is noted for its spring (April-May) bloom of fragrant, single, deep reddish-purple flowers that bloom in showy panicles (each to 9” long). Powdery mildew frequently attacks in summer.

Dramatic reddish-purple flowers emerge from this sun-loving lilac. Introduced in 1913, the Monge maintains its popularity, producing single bloom panicles with an outstanding perfume, with its flowers often growing to 12 inches long. It is valued for cut flowers and potpourri.

With its ornate and fragrant blooms, the Monge Lilac is hard to beat. In May, this Syringa vulgaris produces wonderfully scented red-purple flower spikes that look equally good when either left on the plant or cut for a vase.
