Wise became the fastest player in Camel history to reach the 1,000-point barrier during his career (53 games) and set a school mark with 26 rebounds in a game against High Point. As a junior, he led the Camels to their first 20-win season (20-10) on the senior college level while averaging 19 points per game.

Aug 29, 2024 · It’s been 57 years since Cordell Wise stepped onto the campus of Campbell College and made history as the school’s first Black student. For decades, his enormous impact was both under-recognized by the school and dismissed by the man himself.

Dec 14, 2023 · Cordell Wise '70 was Campbell's first NAIA men's basketball All-American. A native of Riverside, N.J., Wise was the first African American student to attend Campbell. Despite playing only three varsity seasons, he still ranks 11th on Campbell's all-time points scored list with 1584 in 84 games (18.9 per game).

Feb 2, 2024 · Cordell Wise was also the first African American student to enroll at Campbell. A South Jersey standout, Cordell led the Camels to 60 victories over his three seasons after transferring from Temple – capped by a berth in the NAIA national tournament.

Cordell Wise didn’t see his decision to attend Campbell College in 1967 as anything “monumental” or important at the time. A star basketball player at his high school in New Jersey and rising star at Temple, Wise’s journey was one of necessity.
