Located at the foothills of the Appalachia, the City of Commerce began as the community of Harmony Grove which was founded in 1818. The Community was incorporated in December 1884 and officially changed its name from Harmony Grove to Commerce in 1909.

The City of Commerce is a community of over 6,000 located near the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains. Our City is set along I-85 just 90 minutes north of Atlanta making us perfectly situated to offer small city charm with easy access to big city amenities.

Commerce is a Main Street City; with programs focusing on historic preservation, economic development, and community events that create a vibrant downtown. We are always looking for volunteers to help us accomplish our goals to revitalize our downtown.

The City of Commerce is structured as a City Manager form of government. Each department has a department head that handles daily operations. Elections for the Mayor and the Mayor Pro-Tem are city wide while the Councilmen are elected by ward.
