Jul 20, 2024 · First one to be completed is the FP9. The FP9 was comparatively rare in the US, with most of them going to either Canada or Mexico. The four CNW units are all that I am aware of. They were rebuilt from traded FTs. To build it, I used a Highliners FP body, detailed as an FP9, Genesis drive, painted with Model Master chrome yellow and IJN green.

Jun 24, 2022 · C&NW 4052A, as an FP9, was equipped with Cummins train-lighting generator for suburban service in March 1969, removed by March 1970. EMD order number E653A. EMD rebuild order number 7521A.

Nov 5, 2024 · The FP9 was the passenger variant of Electro-Motive's final traditional F series model, the F9. With interest waning for streamlined diesels by the mid-1950s, and rail travel in decline, no U.S. railroad elected to purchase the FP9 (although Chicago & North Western did have former FTA's #5400A, 5400D - 5401A, 5401D rebuilt into FP9s in 1955).

The 222 was an interesting engine. I never had heard of a FP9M model. The 222 was built with a FT trade-in, hence the M designation. It had 20 tooth gearing for speed at one time and received train lighting equipment for suburban service later on. C&NW was said to be the only domestic railroad receiving a FP9 type.

It is essentially an EMD F9 extended four feet horizontally to make room for a steam generator. 90 were built, with 43 going to Canadian National, 11 going to Canadian Pacific, four going to CNW, and the remaining 32 exported to Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

Oct 14, 2024 · The only FP9 units built for an American railroad were the four built for the CNW from traded FTs. All other FP9s were for either Canada or Mexico. It is a rarity in the USA.

I notice that 223 is longer than the typical freight F-unit. When built using components from CNW FT's 4051A-4054A, CNW 221-224 were called FP9M's. Matthew
