A natural evolution of the Baskets series, Chihuly’s Seaforms are thin and transparent. Spiral wraps of color envelope the pieces and the use of optic molds strengthens the glass and gives a ribbed effect. The result: pieces with natural rhythm and fluidity—tributes to the sea.

In the Seaforms, Chihuly succeeds in sustaining an aura of ineluctable transformation. The very process of making reinforces their implicit sense of life. Centrifugal force opens them up, just as a living organism expands with breath.

These undulating, organic forms conjured abstract sea life; thus, Chihuly’s Seaform series was born. The two-piece 2020 Monarch Seaform Studio Edition illustrates the wavelike motion of the series’ quixotically abstract forms.
