Need info for D7 17A series | Forum - ACMOC - Caterpillar Inc.
Jul 26, 2009 · All the 17A's are oil clutch and although the engine displacement is the same the bible (rack setting charts) is quite clear on the horsepower ratings. Don't see how they can use the same Nebraska test as the one is dated 1940 and the 17A came out in 1954. Also on production I show the 17A ending in 1961 and the 47/48A coming out in 1962.

Apr 11, 2023 · The 14A and 15A and the 17A was the start of Cat engineering to more modern tractors and development so hope things work out well and then you,ll have a great tractor to be proud of.Those 4 cyl. engines always had a sound of it,s own that was something to listen to.

Aug 5, 2011 · The late D6's and the D7's require that the idler be pulled forward to open access. I'd be surprised if Cat would recommend the bottle jack method of obtaining the needed clearance but with shot/worn out undercarriage it may not be that big of a chore.....so long as I'm not the one that has to do it.

Nov 10, 2011 · Correct terminology is right hand helix as viewed from the drive end (motor). The picture I included is correct. I'd have a chat with those starter folks and ask for a picture to get it right. They do make a LH helix pinion also but that's not correct for the 17A application.

Does anyone know somewhere I can get parts that are going to fit into this machine? Serial number is too old for the cat database and thats what most companies are accessing. Also wondering what the variations are between 17a7271 and ...

Jan 15, 2019 · Replied by rmyram on topic just bought a D7 17a sprockets were probably replaced at one point with new rings, they would cut the sprocket spokes and weld a new ring on so you didn't have to completely dissassemble the final drive when replacing the undercarriage.

Jan 8, 2010 · Have a look at the S/N above the pony motor transmission. If you cant find that either just post a pic and we should be able to workout what it is. A late 50's model would make a D7 17A [ "C" or "D" series ]. D7C weighs 26930lbs bare operating weight. D7D weighs 27230lbs bare operating weight. Cheers Billy
