Carl A. Rouse (July 14, 1926 - February 25, 2014) was an American physicist, working in the fields of atomic, plasma, and computational physics. Rouse was the first African American to earn a Ph.D. in physics from Caltech.

Carl A. Rouse to earn his doctorate in particle physics at Cal Tech in 1956. A researcher at heart who avoided the classroom, while working in private industry he branched out into astrophysics and in his writings and lectures challenged mistaken hypotheses concerning intensely hot gases that constitute the sun and stars.

Rouse is internationally known for his work in solar and astrophysics, numerical simulation of large scale fluid flows, and plasma physcis. He won recognition for his approach to stellar structure calculations, including an unusual solar model.
