If you place the capo on the third fret and play the Am chord shape, we find out by the chart that the result is a Cm chord. You can go further than the sixth fret, but it will soon be very short of room for your fingers.

A capo on the third fret will create possibilities to play some chords with easier fingerings in contrast to the otherwise common barre shapes. For example, Cm can be played with an Am shape and D#/Eb can be played with an C shape (see diagrams below).
