As originally purchased, both the F-3's and "Babyfaces" cabs were intended for use as three (3) unit sets, so they were numbered: 50A51 etc. At the time of original purchase the sets were not configured for inter-manufacturer "hook-up" which was to become very common in later years.

A rail fan took this night-time photo of Central RR of New Jersey Alco RS3 #1549 while it sat in the Red Bank, NJ Yard. Built by Alco in March of 1953, it moved over to the Conrail roster in 1976 as CR #5379.

Joined: Sat Jul 23, 2005 2:50 am Posts: 162: Work is progressing at the Delaware-Lackawanna shop. Old engine was removed last week. Quite a bit of body work done. All the pipng was shot and is being replaced along with new 26 brake system.

ARHS' former CNJ RS3 1554 is stored at the old CNJ Jim Thorpe yard with old Rail Tours Inc. equipment. In March of this year Reading & Northern will move all the equipment out with the 1554 rumored to come back to New Jersey.

Apr 15, 2025 · At least one other CNJ RS-3 exists, though it has been "DeWitted." There is an SW-1 at RMDI awaiting an angel. At least one SD40 is still on the road (rebuilt to SD-40-2 specs) and the GP40P's remain in service on NJ Transit (also rebuilt).
