Sep 19, 2005 · Based on what you've stated as your needs, I'd stay with the T-176 as it was the best, stock 4 speed available for CJ's in the 80s. I've had them both and the T-176 with taller tires and gears is no fun buzzing at 3000 rpm down the highway. I take mine on the highway alot and I enjoy the overdrive 5th of the T-5.
