Conserved proteins are characterized by their functions remaining nearly constant throughout evolutionary history, both vertically through time and horizontally across species. In this review, we focus on a class of conserved proteins known as the Muscleblind-like (MBNL) family.

Muscleblind-1 (MBL-1) is an RNA-binding protein that regulates the splicing, localization, and stability of RNA. Our findings demonstrate that mbl-1 is required cell-autonomously for axon growth and proper synapse positioning in the posterior lateral microtubule (PLM) neuron.
