Within an eight-man section, six soldiers will normally carry a C7A2: the section commander and second in command, two grenadiers and two riflemen, with only the machine gunners carrying a C9A2 LMG. The C7A2 is considered a "mid-life" upgrade for the C7 family.

With its 5.42 kg (14.5 lbs) the C7 LSW is relatively light and as it uses 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition fed from STANAG magazines, like assault rifles and carbines that are fed in the same way, ammunition is easy to redistribute between riflemen if the operator runs out of ammunition.

Sep 1, 2010 · Like the Canadian C7 and C8 weapons, Diemaco would use their proprietary hammer forged barrels for the LMG. The diameter of the barrel was changed to accept the newly developed yoke, which the carrying handle and vertical pistol grip would be attached.

The C7 is based on the M16A1, but features many improvements found on the M16A2. These improvements included a heavier barrel and rifling twist rate for the 5.56x45mm NATO round. Unlike the M16A2 used by US forces the C7 is capable of fully automatic fire.

The weapon retains some of the obvious lines of the original C7 but incorporates more "heavy duty" features for the sustained fire role (similar to the Belgian FN Minimi/American M249 SAW role).

Jul 14, 2010 · The Model 715, probably better known as the C7, is an upgraded Canadian version of the M16A1. The C7 combines the simple sights of the A1 series with the A2 profile barrel, A2 furniture, forward assist, flash hider, and brass deflector.

The C7 was an incredible success with the Canadian Army. The Canadian Army is much more progressive than the US Army. If Diemaco was to come up with an improvement, it was fairly easy to get it implemented and get it in production.
